UIL History

So You have decided to accept the challenge of UIL History. Congratulations, you are among the few that have the guts to take on a a larger workload than is required. Your love for history and thirst for deeper knowledge of who we are and where we came from will be met with a very challenging and rigorous curriculum developed by Mr Poss. Win Loose or Draw this undertaking will better you academically. GOOD LUCK AND WORK HARD!!!!

I am SUPER EXCITED to tell you that for UIL History this year we will take a deep dive into the abyss of WWI.

Steps to Success in UIL History

  • Get a copy of the book from Poss or download an electronic copy ( it doesn't matter if you just listen to it... however, reading and listening to it helps many people retain information better.
  • Read and/or listen to the book and do your best to retain the information. take notes and do the guided reading>>>>>>> guided reading PDF

  • When you run across things you do not understand, write them to be discussed at practice with Poss and your fellow teammates.
  • Make time to show up for practices. I know you are busy but if this is important to you, you can make time to practice. Practices will be held on Thursdays from 3:35 to 4:30 PM unless otherwise noted by Mr Poss.
  • Make it to as many meets as possible. The intention of these events is to test what you know and make you aware of things you do not know to better focus your study time. Plus they are just fun to go to.
    • You must make and compete in no less than 2 out of the 4 Saturday history events to be eligible to attend District with the team.
    • Anything over the two events gives you a better chance in making the team that will compete at district.
      • At the end of contest season just before district I will take the test averages of each potential district contestant to determine who will represent CHS at the District Meet. The team may consist of only 4 members... 3 on the team and 1 alternate (I will use the highest 2 grades, including your multiple choice and writing portions  on each exam, to get your average and drop the rest)
  • STUDY.... STUDY.... AND STUDY SOME MORE..... AND WHEN YOU GET FINISHED WITH ALL THAT ....STUDY STUDY STUDY SOME MORE... THEN REPEAT....
